A way for Students to asks Questions

As a high school math teacher, teaching all types of math except for calculus, I was thinking of using a blog as an outlet for the students to ask math questions.  I think this will allow students to help others with their homework.  I will be able to see what the students are struggling with so that I can address the different questions in class that they may not normally ask in class.  I think this will be a good way for students to help each other outside of the classroom.  What are your thoughts on this idea?

  1. I think this is a great idea. I find that when students collaborate with each other, they learn as they are explaining to another student. They also might be inclined to ask a question on a blog that they may not ask in class. Will your students know who they are communicating with or would you keep them anonymous even to each other? It would be interesting to see the relationships that might develop online that you do not see in class.

  2. I would let the student choose to either but their name or be anonymous. This way it will keep all the students using it. Some students need help but dont want you to know who they are. This way they are getting help and not just letting it slip past them because they are embarrassed to ask a question.
